Athena Kolbe is a clinical social worker, researcher and writer affiliated with the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and the Enstiti pou Travay Sosyal ak Syans Sosyal in Petion-ville, Haiti. With advanced degrees in social work and theology, Kolbe is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in social work and political science. Her research interests include the use of GIS in sampling, exposure to politically motivated violence including mass rape and torture, small arms violence, calculating mortality and morbidity in challenging and violent environments, the impact of locus of control and past trauma on political behavior, international social work education, mental health interventions with children, and the human costs of disasters.
